Since he died, January 9, 1878, Vittorio Emanuele II, first King of Italy, lies at the heart of Rome, Pantheon. After him, two others were buried in the royal "Temple of all the gods": King Umberto I, second king of Italy, in 1900, and his wife, Queen Margaret, in 1926.
And from that distant 1878 the associations of veterans of the Risorgimento Wars decided to provide a service to guard the tomb of the father of his country, King Vittorio Emanuele II. The associations merged into one association, the General Committee of the Veterans 1848-1870, the years have changed their name twice before reaching the final designation in 1932, the National Institute for the Honor Guard at the Royal Tombs of the Pantheon .
The seat instead of one hundred thirty-three years, is still there, attached to the Pantheon, Via della Minerva 20.
