The basic problem of "The Tourist", the highly anticipated spy movie with Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie (for the first time together on the big screen), it is disarming the weakness of the script. Minor detail? Absolutely not if you think that the minds the story directors and writers are acclaimed and in no hotels: Julian Fellowes (2002 Oscar winner for "Gosford Park"), Christopher McQuarrie (Academy Award 1995 for "The Usual Suspects", perhaps the masterpiece of suspense and plot the last 20 years ) and Jeffrey Nachmanoff (The Day After Tomorrow). Director, German director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck, won an Oscar for best foreign film with his first work, the wonderful "The Lives of Others." The characters do not excel as usual, but do their job very well. The Depp triggers more awkward and even hints of a smile (but they really wanted?) Comedy. Jolie is a beauty embarrassing, indefinable. As carved in marble, it fills the screen without much effort with femininity and elegance with great diva of the past. Perhaps it is the work on the aesthetics of his character the most successful operation of the film.
